Sencha Masta-Sucka Rappers

I just finished my second track off my upcoming "Autumn Equinox" EP that will be available for FREE for all of you following me on this blog!

When this EP is finished, I will be contacting alot of jazzy hip hop blogs, and having this posted for all of you to download aswell.

I have 3 more tracks to go, and I will be heading back in the studio to do some more sampling, and getting those beats to sound tight via the FPC (FL Studio 8). Doing vocals is a bitch, becuase you have to edit every fucking vocal take you do! Im talking: Compression, mixing the sound levels to the beat, noise gates (to eliminate any background sounds), EQ, and normalising.... Takes a long time. And the worst thing is when you keep screwing up on the mic and having to go back and re-record over, and over, and over again!!!

Listen to Sencha Masta's "Sucka Rappers" Here:

In The Studio: Preperation

Im heading back in the studio to write more rhymes and to do some vocal takes on a previous track I was working on.

I also will be recording the chorus to a track I just started called "My Soul" which will be an ode to all of you who feel that today's music has lost its soul. The vibe of the song will be similar to output by Mos Def and A Tribe Called Quest. I will upload some audio of the instrumental very shortly.

Watch this blog!

In The Studio: Mixing down and adding vocals

Ok, now Im mixing tracks down. I have 2 tracks finished music wise.. They just need vocals added to them. I usually type lyrics in silence on my ipod Touch on my way to work, or during down time wherever I am at. Then I will usually jump in my studio add do practice takes of the vocals to see where the lyrics land on the beat. Here is an example:

send me comments please!

In The Studio: Sencha Masta...The intro

I am currently back in the studio, this time for myself. I am recording jazzy boom bap under the moniker Sencha Masta.

If you dont know what sencha is: It is a form of green tea that gives you a relaxed mindstate, and provides excellent health benefit along with its leafy taste!

I have been in the studio since the last couple of days recording, so I decided to start a Vlog about how I record, the samples used and there techniques, my process for writing lyrics.

I am recording an EP that will be released free for all you boom bap loving bloggers to digest. The name.... It will be called the Autumn Equinox due to my love and passion for the fall season.

More details, and a Vlog coming soon!

News From The Reaper....

I will be working on a new mix for my secret podcast site that is available here: www.dubtronica.podomatic.com . I recorded my vocals to the intro of it discussing on why I chose each track played in the mix a day or so ago. This podcast is for those who are into deep electronic music. I mainly spin techno laced in a minimal or dubby type of soundscape.

I am waiting to get my other turntable fixed before I jump back into underground hip hop mixtapes. I currently have recorded over 100 mixtapes since the beginning of this year. Iwill be upping them in the mixtapes from the reaper podcast coming soon!

The RTA Sucks!!!

This is my big F U going the RTA for there shitty service, and there too many security guards scaring you into showing them your rapid fare ticket:

I caught the train earlier today and headed downtown to grab something quick to eat for lunch inside Tower City, and had to stand amongst about 30 confused passengers who obviously dont know how to swipe a ticket into a ticket stall.

There were a gang of security guards from there all the way to the stop I was boarding the train. When I went downstairs to wait for the train (West Blvd Station) There were about 8 guards coming up to 1 or 2 people asking for a ticket. Why the fuck do you need 8 guys in bullet proof vests and carrying tasers asking you if you have a fucking ticket???!!! Im sorry, but if there are more than 2 people approaching a person and are wearing combat gear. They are considered a gang!! I showed my ticket, but felt a lil' threated, and kinda pissed.....

But Like I said earlier.. I made it to Tower City, and people where confused, and a dozen of guards there where shouting at people on how to place there tickets into the machines. Even snatching tickets from some people as they get pissed on how you mis-do what they said.

I ordered my food and recieved it within say... 5 Minutes and went back to swipe my ticket and the machine wouldnt let me in becuase I came back too soon. I had a RTA official tell me I couldnt do that. I had to wait 25 fucking minutes to swipe just to get thru and board the train. As he was talking, a train was pulling up. So I asked him in a pissed tone: "So, your gonna make me wait 25 minutes to board the train"??!! The dude got kinda scared and open the gate in which I had to run all the way to the train to go back home!

And then when I got off, I ran into a friend who was catching the opposite train, and was asked yet again about my fucking ticket....

FUCK YOU RTA!! YOU INCREASE YOUR FARES, CANT GET PEOPLE WHERE THEY NEED TO GO ON TIME, AND NOW THIS!!! FUCK YOU!!!

OH... AND THIS: THIS IS WHY PEOPLE COMING FROM THE AIRPORT REFUSE TO PAY YOUR FUCKING FARE, AND ACT STUPID IF APPROACHED ON WHETHER THEY PAID OR NOT!!! THEY ALREADY KNOW THAT IF YOU HOP ON A TRAIN FROM ANY STATION, AS LONG AS THEY DONT GET OFF ON TOWER CITY ITS A FREE RIDE BECUASE YOU GUYS DONT WANT TO PAY FOR A BOOTH ATTENDANT!!!!

More proof of there Shitty service:

Afterward I will talk about some exclusive controvercial topics such as: whats killing hip hop, the auto-tune situation, fake DJ's,etc... DJ Melodic One-10 min Youtube mix and podcast!

I just finished doing a mix that you can preview the first ten minutes of here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMThWQPOrvw . If you check the newest installation of the Mixtapes From Tha Reaper's (www.tapesfromthareaper.podomatic.com) you can download the entire 40 min mix!

This mix is for my appreciation of given the oppurtunity to DJ at the Lakewood Streetwalk Fest 2009 in which I had a blast doing a lengthy 3+ hours of live mixing, telling bad jokes on the mic, and breakdancing with some kids! I am hoping that this positive event inwhich I helped throw together, is a hope for more future gigs to come.

I also had the oppurtunity to DJ for a B-Boy collective known as The Cleveland City Breakers. You can peep a B-Boy session with them and others here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wCV_7VU4Afw&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Eyoutube%2Ecom%2Fuser%2Flakewoodalive&feature=player_profilepage .

Words From Tha Reaper

I have been listening to various underground hip hop artists of late, and would like to recommend some artists worth noting. When I say hip hop artists... Im talking about artists representing all elements of hip hop ( DJ,MC,Graf Writer,Beatboxer,Etc... ) So if this post seems a bit schizo due to me shouting a graff writer, then jumping on a DJ or whoever. Now you know why!

I have been listening to Oddisee who is a skilled producer and emcee from Washington, DC who has been making excellent soulful hip hop of late. His lyrical abilities deal with real life encounters, and about what hip hop is about in his viewpoint. His beats are some of the most soulful that I have heard in recent times. almost reminds of some early Pete Rock /LMNO type beats. To me this dude seems like he is a Golden Era revivalist, which in my opinion is a hip hop artist who is creating early boom-bap inspired hip hop for those of my generation who lack in hip hop history. We really do need more emcee's like Oddisee who collabs with artists all over the globe to bring back that real boom bap! Check out: Oddisee-Mental Liberation EP out now!

I have also been digging some graffiti artwork from an artist named Beast. View his work here: http://www.graffiti.org/act_beast/actbeast_3.html

And lastly.. If you haven't already done so. Please subscribe to my underground hip hop turntablism podcast entitled: The Writer's Bench hosted and mixed by me DJ Melodik One (formerly DJ Grim Loco).. Mixed %100 live with no edits using 2 turntables and 1 mixer! All new (1999-2009 era) jazzy sounding Boom-Bap! www.mixtapesfromthareaper.podomatic.com

All those subscribed to this blog and podcast stay patient.. I will have my newest addition of The Moca Soul Cafe coming to you later today or tomorrow!

ScholarMan - The Answer II Video

Here is an exclusive video from an artist who has dropped a wonderful soulful underground hip hop album! Scholarman, I dont know much about him, but nevertheless plan on getting some of his material. Here's the video already:

Reaper Wiki: Celph Titled

Take cover - the fusion of raw aggression and slap-you-in-the-face beats is about to explode. Celph Titled, spawned from the golden era of rap music, has decided to capture an entire realm of the hip hop spectrum that has been in captivity for so many years --- the RAWNESS!Priding himself on being an incredible emcee as well as one of the best known and sought after beatmakers in the underground, "The Rubix Cuban" has definitely made an impact on the world of hip hop music. Gaining worldwide notoriety for his famous punchline-filled cameos alongside records with the likes of Apathy, Boogiemonsters, L-Fudge, Rise, Louis Logic, J-Zone, Masterminds, Esoteric, Rahsheed, Lexicon, and C-Rayz Walz --- Celph Titled is a name that is hard to avoid. Most importantly, he has laid down beats for such heavyweights as Kool G. Rap, Ice-T, Soul For Real, Kurious, Apani B-Fly, Lord Digga, 7L & Esoteric, Shabaam Sahdeeq, King Sun, Big Scoob, Truth Enola, and many more.Celph Titled, born and raised in Tampa and now a New York City resident, always had a knack for expressing his creativity in an entertaining fashion. Being raised in such a multi-cultural tropical landscape, the Latino lyricist was exposed to a wide array of music and experiences. From his early demos dating back to 1992 to his first official group, Equilibrium in 1997, his music has continued to go nowhere else but up. He released his first two official records in late 1998 on his own imprint, Atomik Recordings. One of which was with his group, Equilibrium, which consisted of two other Floridian emcees - DutchMassive & Majik Most, as well as a veteran DJ - Kramtronix. The single was a 3-song 12" consisting of the Tampa anthem "Fahrenheit 813", the conscious "Critical Conditions" which featured then-EMI recording artist Vex of the Boogiemonsters, and the highly controversial "Windows 98" which sampled the Microsoft Windows '95 start-up music and was even rumored that Bill Gates himself gave the group a holla. The second single was from the Walkmen, entitled "Fortruss", which was a huge success especially in Japan for an unknown group and has gone to sell over 12,000 copies independently to date. Ever since then, it has been history as Celph Titled has single-handedly dominated the underground hip hop realm. As a soloist, the gruff-voiced rapper made his debut in November 2001 with the release of his 12" single, "Right Now" b/w "It Ain't" & "Root Beers In Your Fridge (w/ Apathy)". The urban radio chart topping A-side, "Right Now", is produced by none other than the legendary Mark the 45 King, most recently known for his platinum hits with Eminem ("Stan") and Jay-Z ("Hard Knock Life") among his classic old school contributions. The single was an instant success, spawning commercial mix show spins worldwide and even gaining the attention of NYC tastemaker Funkmaster Flex and Wake Up Show shot caller, DJ Revolution. This record was an amazing feat for an underground artist to accomplish, while Celph considers it simply "a small step towards something much bigger."If his own solo endeavors weren't enough, he is a lead member of the Demigodz. Just off the names alone involved in this conglomerate, the buzz for the crew as a whole spans across the globe in anxious anticipation of a collective full length release as well as each individual members' projects. The CD and double vinyl EP, "The Godz Must Be Crazy" was released in April 2002 on the Los Angeles-based Ill Boogie Records with distribution through Caroline/EMI. On this release, the entire family joined together and Celph Titled spits venom on every song as well as having produced half of the EP himself. The record has been a huge success and even garnered the attention of major labels such as Interscope, Warner Bros, Dreamworks, Priority/Capitol - and eventually lead to the signing of Apathy to Atlantic Records in September 2002.So, in closing - the truth is - Celph Titled is a highly versatile, talented, and marketable artist. He is currently working on his debut full length LP, which enlists some of the biggest names in hardcore hip hop making contributions. While he does not have a home yet for this project, he is seeking one and is planning on creating one of the best raw hip hop albums of his time. Besides his own album, he is also staying busy appearing on and producing much of Apathy's forthcoming underground releases as well as his yet to be completed major label debut on Atlantic. There are really no words to describe his persona, thus only a name like Celph Titled would fit such a character.

Reaper Wiki: Bukue One

Bukue Onehas three obvious passions: Emceeing, skateboarding, and graffiti writing. The three combine together to make up the Oakland emcee's persona: "You could be tight but I'm tighter, best believe me/I'll paint the whole city a done deal in graffiti/You don't really want to raise the stakes/let's put 20 bills on a game of skate." His latest album is titled Triathalon ,referring to the three parts that make him a whole. Infused throughout the slow-paced rhymes and beat loops (provided by a host of different DJs, including DJ Sing) Bukue One throws in soliloquies on his history like he was a skater before anything else, since 1987. His music is actually funny if you think of it in contrast to gangsta rap--or rather the other way around. Instead of bragging about his wad of cash, chicks, guns, or murders, Bukue One raps about his lyrical skills, names his skateboarding tricks, and hypes his talents as a graf writer. And his bragging is warranted. On his website, bukueone.com , you can see 26 samples of his Bukue One grafitti tags, and shots of his skate tricks--showing that Bukue One doesn't just talk a big game, nor does he seek to stamp out his competition: "Blessin' each element with my heart and soul/My goal's to hoist the flag and still remain humble." Bukue One raps socially conscious lyrics, and preaches a positive and interactive message to his listeners. "When I roll through your city I try to rock all three/ Peep me at the skatepark sparking interest having them spectators amazed, 'Wasn't he that guy on stage?'/Sho Ya Right! It was I, but now I'm down to build/We're blue-collar work ethic with executive skill." Bukue's music includes scratching and samples, and the accompanying emceeing of artists such as EMC (present on this tour) and his cited favorite artist, Abstract Rude. With Bukue One's obvious musical integrity and drive to succeed, his show will undoubtedly be skilled and high energy--whether it's his ride over at the Burnside skatepark, tagging, or dropping rhymes.

There are only a handful of emcees who truly deliver conscious lyrics with a fun and uplifting flavor. Bukue One is armed with messages that transport us to a world of entertainment, positivity and spirituality. When he's not stage rockin' the mic, he can probably be found skateboarding or graffiti writing, his two other passions. His drive to represent all three skills worldwide has led to the title of his latest project, Triathalon. A Bukue's tours have taken him across the globe, he has shared the stage and recorded with emcees from Africa, Australia and Europe. Plus, through his avid skateboarding and graff writing, he meets and chills with folks beyond the typical music scene locales. Bukue is an artist who genuinely enjoys connecting with locals and fans. From hip hop heads to skeptics, audiences are won over by Bukue's positive vibe. His live shows hit the spot with a blend of raw energy, cleverness and light-hearted play. Just when you are looking for a unique chance to have good clean fun with a talented artist and then some, Bukue One is ripe for the picking.

Rashaad Ahmad...Quality Hip Hop from the tastemaster

I was digging around on Myspace and found a quality hip hop artist from San Francisco. Rashaan Ahmad, who has a more laid back approach to his music that is considerably jazzy and a bit funky. One thing for sure: He chooses good tracks to spit on! His delivery is very smooth, and hits the beat quite well. His lyrics lacks just a little bit in aggression and "oomph" . But no doubt workable! Check him out here:

New Podcast coming soon...

Im already getting the blueprint for DJ Grim Loco's "Writer's Bench 2" Mix. I have recently just bought a new album, this time via itunes for my first time! The album is from The Jazz Liberatorz (http://www.myspace.com/jazzlib)called "Clin d'Oeil" Which is a french word for a "petite suprise" for the new year... Anyway, The album is basically about two french producers (The Jazz Liberatorz) collaborating with world renowned underground emcess & neo-soul singers who do a track each, and tell about what got them into jazz and why they love hip hop. The album is fantastic, and I hope all of you who enjoy my mixtapes & mixes will try to purchase this somewhere.

If you want to checkout the album via Last FM. Check it here: http://www.last.fm/music/Jazz+Liberatorz/_/Clin+d'oeil
